PP6160 - Working with Diverse Populations3 credit hour(s) This course is designed to expose students to the current and historical experiences of diverse groups of people living in the United States; several aspects of multiculturalism and diversity are presented in the course, including race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, immigration and refugee status, disability, socio-economic status, and age. Portions of the course will assist students in developing awareness of the impact of their own diversity as a person—ethnicity, race, gender, age—on the individuals with whom they work when providing clinical interactions such as assessment and therapy. The course is designed to assist students in considering cultural, economic, and sociopolitical systems from the perspective of the client as well as that of the helper.
