PP6499 - Applied Sport Psychology I: Theory and Research3 credit hour(s) This course introduces students to theory, research and practice of sport performance enhancement for both individuals and groups of performers by a variety of psychological interventions. Theoretical understanding in the use of mental skills training techniques such as goal-setting, imagery, self-talk, and arousal regulation is a prime focus. In addition, topics such as self-motivation, self-confidence, and concentration are addressed. Special attention is given to the thorough understanding of the psychological factors necessary for optimal sport performance to aid in appropriate intervention planning.
