Program Overview
The Associate of Science (AS) in Business Administration degree program combines an introduction to the various business functions with coursework in general education. The curriculum is designed to help students acquire a broad range of transferable skills such as critical thinking, effective interpersonal communication, research, diversity appreciation, global sustainability, and problem solving. The AS in Business Administration degree program is intended to enable students to acquire the foundational knowledge, skills, and competencies that can be applied towards immediate employment or career advancement, as well as providing the basis for continuation towards a bachelor’s degree in business for interested students.
Note
The AS in Business Administration degree program credits can be transferred to the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration degree program offered by Argosy University.
Program Learning Outcomes
The AS in Business Administration degree program is designed to develop the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Program Outcome One: Communications
Students will develop college level foundational skills as it pertains to listening, reading, comprehension, speaking, and writing. They will be expected to communicate proficiently in a business context.
Program Outcome Two: Critical Thinking
Students will learn the fundamentals of identifying and describing business problems and propose appropriate solutions. They will acquire proficiency in integrating analytical and problem solving skills to formulate conclusions and make business decisions.
Program Outcome Three: Research
Students will acquire basic research skills – both traditional and technology based - to enable them to methodically gather and sort through relevant information, and develop analytical and reporting skills.
Program Outcome Four: Knowledge and Basic Application
Students will learn the fundamental concepts of business administration and be able to define the roles and responsibilities of the functional areas of business. They will gain proficiency in applying concepts and frameworks to the milieu of business.
Program Outcome Five: Interpersonal Effectiveness
Students will be able to apply skills of interpersonal effectiveness to everyday interaction, learn how interpersonal effectiveness can help them achieve personal and professional goals.
Program Outcome Six: Interdisciplinary skills
Students will be able to relate concepts, ideas, research, topics systematically from different disciplines, academic traditions, and articulate solutions to solving real world business problems.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide proof of high school graduation or GED and meet one of the following conditions:
- ACT Composite score of 18 or above, or
- Combined Math and Critical Reading SAT score of 870, or
- Minimum High School or College GPA as follows:
- For students with 12 or less college credits, cumulative High School GPA of 2.0 or above
- For students with 13 or more college credits, cumulative College GPA of 2.0 or above
- A minimum score on an Argosy University pre-approved English language proficiency test is required for all applicants whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from an institution at which English is the language of instruction as specified in Section Five, Admission Policies, “English Language Proficiency Policy .”
Other Admission Requirements
- Proof of high school graduation documented by one of the following:
- Official high school transcript
- State issued high school equivalency (home school)
- Official General Educational Development (GED) document
- Official college transcript that shows proof of high school graduation from a regionally accredited institution or nationally accredited institution approved by the Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies, or an appropriately certified foreign institution
- Proof of high school graduation or earned college degree
All applications for admission must be submitted to the Admissions Department. An admissions representative will help interested applicants complete the following required documentation:
- Completed Application for Admission Form
- Application fee (Non-refundable, except in California and Arizona. In the state of Arizona, the application fee is refundable if the application is canceled within three business days of the applicant signing the Enrollment Agreement.)
- Official transcripts from all postsecondary schools attended*
- Proof of high school graduation or GED or college degree from a regionally accredited institution or nationally accredited institution approved and documented by the faculty and dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies
Note
*Students admitted on Provisional Status, or on the basis of their high school GPA need only submit official transcripts for coursework they wish to have considered for transfer credit.
Exceptions to the Minimum Grade Point Average
Applicants with grade point averages lower than the stated minimum may be considered for admission in accordance with the policy stated within the admission requirements section of the Academic Catalog for each program. Students admitted on an exception basis will be assigned “Academic/Financial Aid Warning” in accordance with Argosy University’s Standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress. Academic/Financial Aid Warning status does not impact a student’s eligibility for financial aid.
Graduation Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of all required courses within the program with a grade of “C-” or better
- Completion of 60 credit hours as follows
- 42 credit hours General Education Curriculum Requirements
- 18 credit hours Business Core Requirements
- An Argosy University grade point average of 2.0 or higher
- A completed Petition to Graduate Form submitted to campus administration
Program Requirements
The AS in Business Administration degree program requires the successful completion of 60 credit hours distributed as follows: general education curriculum requirements, 42 credit hours; business core requirements, 18 credit hours.
