Program Overview


The Master of Arts (MA) in Industrial Organizational Psychology degree program is designed to apply the knowledge of industrial organizational psychology to issues involving individuals and groups in organizational and work settings. This program is designed to prepare students for careers in areas such as compensation, training, data analysis, consultation, statistical decision making, organizational development, leadership, and human resource management positions. The curriculum is competency based, focusing on the outcomes of training and on the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary to function as a master’s level professional in Industrial Organizational Psychology.

Program Learning Outcomes


Program Outcome One: Application of Professional Knowledge

Evaluate and integrate relevant academic and professional literature to make evidence-based decisions related to I/O psychology.

Program Outcome Two: Critical Thinking and Decision Making

Exercise critical thinking to propose, communicate, and implement action plans that address I/O opportunities and issues.

Program Outcome Three: Ethical and Legal Practices

Identify and utilize ethical and legal standards in I/O psychology while taking into account all relevant stakeholders.

Program Outcome Four: Communication and Interpersonal Effectiveness

Demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness with individuals and groups through professional behavior while utilizing appropriate communication.

Program Outcome Five: Diversity

Examine individual and group needs, and utilize relevant and evidence based approaches with diverse populations.

Admission Requirements


  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, a nationally accredited institution approved and documented by the faculty and dean of the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, or an appropriately certified foreign institution.
  • A 2.7 grade point average for the bachelor’s degree used as the basis of admission, or a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the last 60 hours of coursework (including graduate work).
  • A minimum score on an Argosy University pre-approved English language proficiency test is required for all applicants whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from an institution at which English is the language of instruction as specified in Section Five, Admission Policies, “English Language Proficiency Policy .”

All applications for admission must be submitted to the Admissions Department. An admissions representative is available to help interested applicants complete the following required documentation:

  • Completed Application for Admission Form
  • Application fee (Non-refundable, except in California and Arizona. In the state of Arizona, the application fee is refundable if the application is canceled within three business days of the applicant signing the Enrollment Agreement.)
  • If the basis of admission is an earned bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 grade point average, an official transcript from the degree granting institution
  • If the basis of admission is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the last 60 hours of coursework, official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended during the 60 hours of study

Admission Exceptions to the Grade Point Average


Applicants with cumulative grade point averages between 2.5 and 2.7 may be considered for admission on an exception basis. Admission exceptions must be approved by the program chair or designee. Admission exceptions must be documented, signed, placed, and retained in the student’s academic file. Students admitted on an exception basis will be assigned Academic/Financial Aid Warning in accordance with Argosy University’s Standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress. See “Exceptions to Admission Requirements ” under Section Five, Admission Policies .

Applicants with cumulative grade point averages between 2.5 and 2.7 must submit the following additional documentation by the application deadline:

  • Official Transcripts
  • Personal/professional goal statement with a self-appraisal of qualifications for the profession
  • One completed Applicant Recommendation Form from a current employer
  • One undergraduate introductory psychology course with a grade of “C” or better

Applicants with cumulative grade point averages between 2.0 and 2.4 may be considered for admission with significant evidence of academic and professional potential demonstrated by career and/or personal accomplishments indicated in the statement of academic and professional goals, the career summary, and academic or professional letters of recommendation. Admission exceptions must be approved by the program chair or designee. Admission exceptions must be justified, documented, signed, placed, and retained in the student’s academic file. Students admitted on an exception basis will be assigned Academic/Financial Aid Warning in accordance with Argosy University’s Standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress.  See “Exceptions to Admission Requirements ” under Section Five, Admission Policies .

Applicants with cumulative grade point averages between 2.0 and 2.4 must submit the following additional documentation by the application deadline:

  • Official Transcripts
  • Personal/professional goal statement with a self-appraisal of qualifications for the profession
  • Current résumé (or career summary)
  • Three completed Applicant Recommendation Forms (one from a current employer)
  • One undergraduate introductory psychology course with a grade of “C” or better

Applications to Multiple Campuses


Applicants who are undecided with respect to the location they wish to attend should submit an application and full set of application materials to their location of first choice. Applicants who are accepted into their location of first choice and who, prior to beginning the program, determine they want to complete the same program at a different location, should notify the initial location of record of that intent. Provided that the same program is available, all previous approvals and credits accepted will remain in force. If an individual requests to change programs, he or she will need to meet all admission requirements of the new program.

Graduation Requirements


To be eligible for graduation, students will be responsible for completing the program requirements that are in effect at the time of admission. Argosy University retains the right to modify these requirements in accordance with the demands of the profession. To be eligible for graduation, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of all program requirements, including a total of 42  semester credit hours, which must be completed by the end of the fifth year of matriculation
  • GPA of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0), and a grade of “B-” or better in all courses
  • Completion of all degree requirements within a maximum time frame of five years
  • A completed Petition to Graduate submitted to campus administration

Program Requirements


The MA in Industrial Organizational Psychology degree program requires the satisfactory completion of 42 credit hours comprised of fourteen core courses.
