Program Overview
The Associate of Science (AS) in Business Administration degree program combines an introduction to the various business functions with coursework in general education. The curriculum is designed to help students acquire a broad range of transferable skills such as critical thinking, effective interpersonal communication, research, diversity appreciation, global sustainability, and problem solving. The AS in Business Administration degree program is intended to enable students to acquire the foundational knowledge, skills, and competencies that can be applied towards entry-level employment, as well as providing the basis for continuation towards a bachelor’s degree in business for interested students.
Note
The AS in Business Administration degree program credits can be transferred to the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration degree program offered by Argosy University.
Program Learning Outcomes
The AS in Business Administration degree program is designed to develop the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Program Outcome One: Communication and Interpersonal Effectiveness

Demonstrate college level skills pertaining to listening, reading, comprehension, speaking, and writing. Interpret non-verbal communication in order to understand the true message being delivered. Analyze and apply skills of interpersonal effectiveness to everyday interaction by using observation, active listening, and questions. Students will develop college level foundational skills as it pertains to listening, reading, comprehension, speaking, and writing. They will be expected to communicate proficiently in a business context. |

Program Outcome Two: Knowledge and Basic Application
|
Explain the fundamental concepts of business administration and define the roles and responsibilities of the functional areas of business leaders and teams. Define the attributes of an effective team member and leader and explain when to use a team or individual for projects within the organization. Describe basic team strategies, motivation, and how to reach goals under difficult situations; and apply concepts and frameworks to solve problems. |

Program Outcome Three: Critical Thinking
|
Identify and describe business problems and propose appropriate solutions. Integrate analytical and problem solving skills to formulate conclusions and make business decisions. Access appropriate qualitative and quantitative information to make informed business decisions. |

Program Outcome Four: Research
|
Demonstrate basic research skills – both traditional and technology based–to methodically gather and sort through relevant information, and develop analytical and reporting skills. Research information in order to make informed decisions and identify critical information that is missing. Generate well informed recommendations which will support the organization and its mission. |

Program Outcome Five: Ethics and Diversity
|
Describe the ethical framework that managers and employees operate under in a business situation, and the professional ethics and behavior expected within the organization. Categorize the benefits and constraints of diversity within and across organizational settings, and personal biases that might hamper progress . Identify the professional and ethical values that govern specific courses of action. |
Admission Requirements
- Applicants must provide proof of high school graduation or GED documented by one of the following:
- Official high school transcript
- State issued high school equivalency (home school)
- Official General Educational Development (GED) document
- Official college transcript from a regionally accredited institution or nationally accredited institution approved by the Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies that shows proof of high school graduation or an appropriately certified foreign insitution that shows proof of high school graduation
- Official DD-214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty Form*

- Official college transcript from a completed associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or nationally accredited institution approved by the Dean of the College of Undergraduate Studies
- A minimum score on an Argosy University pre-approved English language proficiency test is required for all applicants whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from an institution at which English is the language of instruction as specified in Section Five, Admission Policies, “English Language Proficiency Policy .”
Note
*Applies to only those applicants who graduated from high school or earned their GED prior to August 2009.
Other Admission Requirements
All applications for admission must be submitted to the Admissions Department. An admissions representative will help interested applicants complete the following required documentation:
- Completed Application for Admission Form
- Application fee (Non-refundable, except in California and Arizona. In the state of Arizona, the application fee is refundable if the application is canceled within three business days of the applicant signing the Enrollment Agreement.)
Graduation Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of all required core courses within the program with a grade of “C-” or better
- Completion of 60 credit hours as follows
- 42 credit hours General Education Curriculum Requirements
- 18 credit hours Business Core Requirements
- An Argosy University GPA of 2.0 or higher
- A completed Petition to Graduate Form submitted to campus administration
Program Requirements
The AS in Business Administration degree program requires the successful completion of 60 credit hours distributed as follows: general education curriculum requirements, 42 credit hours; business core requirements, 18 credit hours.

General Education Curriculum Requirements (42 Credit Hours)
All students are required to take 14 courses or 42 credit hours in General Education distributed as follows: - 6 credit hours in academic and interpersonal skills1
- 6 credit hours in communication
- 6 credit hours in humanities2
- 6 credit hours in social sciences consisting of ECO 201 and ECO 202 3
- 6 credit hours in natural science
- 6 credit hours in mathematics
- 6 credit hours in elective courses (which may be in any distribution area)
1To satisfy the Academic and Interpersonal Skills requirements, students are required to take ASP 100 Skills for Success and PSY 180 Interpersonal Effectiveness during the first semester of attendance. Academic and Interpersonal Skills requirements are 3 credit hours at Argosy University, Twin Cities and are fulfilled by successful completion of PSY180 Interpersonal Effectiveness. Students at Argosy University, Twin Cities are not required to take ASP100 Skills for Success. 2Students at Argosy University, Twin Cities are required to take 9 credit hours within the humanities category. 3Students at Argosy University, Twin Cities are required to take 9 credit hours within the social sciences category.
Business Core Requirements (18 Credit Hours)
Students enrolled in the AS in Business Administration degree program must complete 6 business core courses or 18 credit hours. Business Core Requirements—Students Are Required to Take the Following
