Program Overview


The Master of Science in Management (MSM) degree program is designed to improve and extend the interpersonal and problem-solving skills necessary for employment in the private, non-profit, and public sectors. The program focuses on situation diagnostics, opportunity and problem evaluation, and implementation of an action plan.

Program Learning Outcomes


 Program Outcome One: Communication

1.1 Communication (oral/written) - Communicate information orally and in writing, from a management viewpoint, using appropriate terminology that is concise, clear, organized, supported, and is easily understood by the targeted audience.

Program Outcome Two: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving

2.1 Critical Thinking - Consider, evaluate and incorporate data, concepts, and accepted practices to arrive at a management decision.
2.2 Problem Solving - Given a management situation, diagnose the multiple facets of the situation, determine and evaluate available options, and present a remedial plan that is aligned with the best interest of the organization.
2.3 Information Literacy - Access and comprehend information from a variety of credible sources, synthesize the information, and use the information as a contextual framework to judge the best solution to an organizational goal.

Program Outcome Three: Team

3.1 Leadership - Evaluate managers in assessing team dynamics and motivating team members in achieving team and organizational goals
3.2 Collaboration - Construct and implement the optimal management strategy to achieve organizational goals that reflect the perspectives of stakeholders.

Program Outcome Four: Ethics

4.1 Ethics - Consider from both an historical and a contemporary position the definition and application of ethical behavior. Apply this knowledge to an organizational situation and identify the consequences of pursuing a course of unethical behavior.

Program Outcome Five: Diversity

5.1 Diversity - Identify the potential positive impact of embracing cultural diversity in developing a workforce in the modern enterprise.

Program Outcome Six: Analysis/Application

6.1 Integration - Analyze the interrelationship among various areas of an organization within the context of achieving specific organizational goals.

Program Outcome Seven: Management

7.1 Management - Given an organizational case/scenario, create a plan developing and communicating purpose and vision, motivating people to overcome barriers, and creating the momentum for achieving organizational goals.

Program Outcome Eight: Organizational Constructs

8.1 Organizational Constructs - Given a specific organizational issue, develop a solution and implementation plan to evaluate the functional processes necessary to achieve organizational objectives.

Admission Requirements


  • A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, a nationally accredited institution approved and documented by the dean of the College of Business, or an appropriately certified foreign institution.
  • A grade point average (GPA) on a scale of 4.0 as described below. Additional requirements may apply.
    • 2.7 GPA for the bachelor’s degree, or
    • 3.0 GPA for the last 60 hours of coursework (including graduate work), or
    • Between 2.0 and 2.7 for the bachelor’s degree. Students admitted with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.7 must enroll in W 5096 Academic Writing  within the first 15 week semester and pass within the first 38 weeks. Admission between 2.0 and 2.7 must be approved by the program chair and must be justified, documented, signed, placed, and retained in the student’s academic file.
  • A minimum score on an Argosy University pre-approved English language proficiency test is required for all applicants whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from an institution at which English is the language of instruction as specified in Section Five, Admission Policies, “English Language Proficiency Policy .”

All applications for admission must be submitted to the Admissions Department. An admissions representative is available to help interested applicants complete the following required documentation:

  • Completed Application for Admission Form.
  • Application fee (Non-refundable, except in California and Arizona. In the state of Arizona, the application fee is refundable if the application is canceled within three business days of the applicant signing the Enrollment Agreement.).
  • If the basis of admission is an earned bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (on a scale of 4.0), an official transcript from the degree granting institution.
  • If the basis of admission is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the last 60 hours of coursework, official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended during the 60 hours of study.

Applications to Multiple Campuses


Applicants who are undecided with respect to the location they wish to attend should submit an application and full set of application materials to their location of first choice. Applicants who are accepted into their location of first choice and who, prior to beginning the program, determine they want to complete the same program at a different location, should notify the initial location of record of that intent. Provided that the same program is available, all previous approvals and credits accepted will remain in force. If an individual requests to change programs, he or she will need to meet all admission requirements of the new program.

Graduation Requirements


Students enrolled in the MSM degree program are eligible for graduation when the following requirements are met:

  • Satisfactory completion of all requirements in the program of study
  • Satisfactory completion of ten core courses and two elective courses for a total of 12 courses or 36 credit hours
  • A minimum GPA of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) and a grade of “B-” or better in all courses
  • Completion of these requirements within five years of matriculation into the program
  • A completed Petition to Graduate submitted to campus administration

Program Requirements


Students enrolled in the MSM degree program are required to complete 36 credit hours distributed as follows: core course requirements, 30 credit hours; elective requirements, 6 credit hours.

Core Course Requirements


Students enrolled in the MSM degree program are required to complete ten core courses (30 credit hours).

Elective Requirements


Students enrolled in the MSM degree program choose two courses (six credit hours) from among the 6000 level business courses offered. Directed independent studies may only be taken with the permission of the program chair.
