PC6030 - Psychopathology and Assessment3 credit hour(s) This course provides students with a broad theoretical foundation from which to view and understand the development of psychopathology. The course examines the theories and explanations of the development of normal and abnormal personalities and behavior from various perspectives. Students learn the importance of observation, diagnostic interviewing and assessment to assist with developing a differential diagnosis, treatment plan, and treatment interventions. Psychopathology is studied from a lifespan perspective, noting differences in onset, course, and treatment at different points in the life cycle. The role of gender, culture, and trauma are highlighted in the development, maintenance, and treatment of psychopathology. Prerequisite(s): none Corequisite(s): none Recommended: none
