E6320 - Introduction to ESOL

This course provides an overview of the academic needs of the second language learner and the policies that must be adhered in order for a school to be in compliance with federal and state regulations. Participants in this course will gain awareness of the cultural and social factors that influence the ESOL learner, identify the ESOL instructional strategies that yield high academic performance for the second language learner, explore the testing and evaluation process used to determine eligibility for ESOL services, and develop an understanding of how language is acquired and the cross cultural influences that have an impact on this process.
